Downloads and platform status

The Windows editor is a real download today. Chrome Web Store and macOS availability are tracked below, alongside checksums for everything you can get now.

Windows early access is available now

The Web2Markdown desktop editor for Windows is a real, working download today. The Chrome Web Store listing and the public source repository are still in preparation; the extension is included in the full bundle below in the meantime.

Windows editor

Currently free to download and use. GDK Digital has no monetary plans for Web2Markdown right now, and this page will say so plainly if that changes.

Per-user install, no administrator required. Selects x64, 32-bit, or ARM64 automatically. Requires Windows 10 or newer.

You will get Web2Markdown-Setup-latest.exe (currently version 2.8.5; the checksum above always matches what you receive). Windows will show an unknown-publisher warning the first time you run it: see why, and the two clicks past it.

Full bundle: installer plus extension

Includes the installer above plus the unpacked Chrome extension source, so capture-to-desktop works today while the Chrome Web Store listing is pending.

Download the extension separately if you already have the desktop editor. Chrome Web Store listing pending. Load the extracted extension folder with Developer mode; this ZIP is not a Store installation.

Mac editor

Planned, not released. Native macOS build, installation, file handling, export, signing, and notarization checks are still ahead.

There is no verified Mac package or compatibility claim at this stage.

Getting past the Windows warning

The installer does not carry a code-signing certificate yet, so Windows will show Windows protected your PC the first time you run it, naming an unrecognized publisher. This is expected for this early-access build, not a sign the file was changed.

Click Run anyway.

To verify the file first, open PowerShell in your Downloads folder and run certutil -hashfile "Web2Markdown-Setup-latest.exe" SHA256, then compare the result to the SHA-256 checksum shown above. Code signing is planned but not yet complete.

Installing the browser extension

Download the full bundle or standalone extension ZIP above and extract it.
In Chrome, open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode in the top right.
Click Load unpacked and select the extracted extension folder containing manifest.json.
Pin the Web2Markdown icon to your toolbar from the extensions menu.

Keep that extracted folder available while Chrome uses the unpacked extension. This is a developer-mode installation; the Chrome Web Store listing remains pending.

Frequently asked questions

Is Web2Markdown free to use?

Yes, currently. GDK Digital has no monetary plans for Web2Markdown right now. If that changes, this page will say so before it happens.

Why does Windows warn me when I install Web2Markdown?

The installer does not carry a code-signing certificate yet, so Windows shows an unknown-publisher SmartScreen warning. Verify the SHA-256 checksum above, then choose More info and Run anyway. Code signing is planned but not yet complete.

How do I get the Chrome extension before it is on the Web Store?

Download the full bundle above, then load its extension folder into Chrome with Developer Mode. The exact steps are on this page.

Already using an early-access build?

You can continue using your existing local captures and editor. Install the new Windows build. For an unpacked Chrome extension, extract the new package, keep its folder available, and reload that extension in chrome://extensions; if using a new folder, load that folder and avoid keeping two active copies. Check Help or About in each component for its installed version. Do not assume an older installer contains current changes.
